An Egg Hunt

Last Sunday was the big egg hunt at my mom's house. This one was also Henry's first. Doesn't he look excited?

Henry was, actually, pretty thrilled about the Easter Egg Hunt. However, I don't know if it was the eggs that thrilled him or the grass. He loves to pull grass.

Once Henry figured out that his grandma had put cookie bears in the eggs and they made noise when shaken, he was all about shaking the eggs. 

I can't emphasize enough the importance of teaching young children to search for plastic eggs filled with candy, while of course stopping frequently to make themselves available for photographs. 

It's a time-honored tradition that welcomes spring while also creating a surplus of candy. Unless we give our children unlimited access to that candy (not going to happen), most of the candy ends up being eaten by adults. Greg said tonight that most of his diet this week was made up of sugar and saturated fat. My snacking wasn't quite as bad, but Peeps and chocolate were definitely on the menu.

Both boys found eggs, but Nick filled his basket with considerable ease. He's an old hat at hunting for eggs.

Wordless Wednesday

Egg'straordinary Fun in Downtown Plainfield

I wrote a few days ago about taking the boys to the Easter event in Downtown Plainfield. We had an eggceptionally good time and will be eggspecially certain to attend next year.

We had lovely weather all day, just perfect for strolling up and down looking for goodies and special things to do. Henry stayed in the stroller for most of it, people watching and enjoying the sunshine. The fresh air was eggshilarating.

They had a bouncy house and face painting, two ways to ensure my boy Nick had an eggcellent time.

After face painting and pictures, we went to the library to complete an eggstra special craft.

Nick made an eggstra sticky bunny necklace. (He used lots of glue.) Henry just crawled around, entertaining the volunteers with his cuteness and his mischievous crawling, climbing, and "traveling" (that's where he walks around holding on to things).

Here's Nick's final project. After this, we were all ready for a nap, myself included.  I was especially eggshausted. If you've read this far, you're probably not all that eggsthusiastic about my puns. Sorry about that. I'm pretty tired tonight and a little slap-happy, to tell you the truth. Puns make me giggle.

An Easter Egg Hunt on Mother's Day!

On Mother's Day, we went to my mom's house for a combination Mother's Day/Belated Easter celebration. My mom and stepdad were on vacation in Europe, so they missed the whole Easter Egg hunt thing with Nick. Actually, though, the weather was much nicer on Sunday than it was anytime around Easter!

In fact, it was so sunny on Sunday that much of Nick's candy melted. We all loved the time outside, though. Funny how our weather changed in just a few days. Here in Northern Illinois, we went from daytime temps topping out in the 40s and 50s last week to 92 degrees today. Crazy stuff.

Compared with last year, Nick was pretty independent with his egg-hunting. Once he figured out there were cookies and candies inside the eggs, he was very excited.



Nick kept trying to get his grandpa to open up the shed. He thought there might be cows in there.



Later this week, I'll post about the neat painting project Nick and I did for all of his grandmas for Mother's Day. I have some pics of that as well. I've been kind of tired the last few weeks, and now that I'm down to the last month of this pregnancy, the doctor visits have been taking up a lot of my blogging time. Each week, now until this baby is born, I have an IV iron infusion, at least one doctor visit, and two NSTs (non stress tests). Man, am I ever glad that pregnancy only lasts nine months!

Coloring Easter Eggs

Last Saturday, Nick's Auntie Mandy came by to help Nick and I decorate eggs, among other things. Eggs plus food dye plus stickers equals one giant mess, but Nick sure had a ball. Check out this picture; you can actually see the drops of blue dye flying onto his nice sweater.

Nick actually loves eating hard-boiled eggs. So it was hard to get him to dye them rather than eat them!

I'm not sure why I'm either making a face or have my eyes closed for all of these (perhaps trying to avoid splashes?) but Nick was really into the process.

He especially loved the sticker part. Adding stickers to eggs is fun!

I'm too tired to write anymore, but enjoy the pictures. I will post more pictures from Aunt Mandy's visit tomorrow.

We had a great one! I'll have tons of pictures to post this week, but for now, enjoy the antics of Nick and the bunny ears. I hope everyone enjoyed their Easter. Nick certainly did, although the main food group he's been eating from today would be the chocolate group.

 

By the way, that's hard boiled egg stuck to Nick's bottom lip. He likes to eat the Easter Eggs we dyed.



Easter 2010

Nick had a spectacular Easter last Sunday. Between all of the presents from his grandparents playing bunny, the yummy goodies, and the plastic eggs filled with animal crackers, he was in a pretty good mood for most of the day. 

 

Easter egg hunting was a hit for Nick as well. I love the look of sheer determination on his face (above) as he headed for the eggs. Figuring out what to do in a matter of minutes, Nick headed off across the backyard in search of his prey. He had quite an audience, too--he was the only child, so all of the eggs were for him, lucky boy.

The only problem Nicholas had was that the basket kept dumping over and the eggs would fall out. Then he would collect them again, looking mildly confused as to how more eggs had appeared. Theoretically, his egg hunt could've lasted forever.

Now, when Nicholas figured out that there were animal cookies inside of the eggs, the fun really started. Notice above how Tigger and Nick are both scraping the bottom of the basket at the same time. Tigger (my mom's dog) figured out about the cookies at exactly the same time. So I guess Nick did have some competition after all.

My mom crocheted Nick this adorable little bunny and a new blanket for his crib. He loves the blanket because it has little holes in it and he can put his toes in the holes. His Grandma Toni got him an adorable summer outfit and some rice krispie treats--one was shaped like a bunny. He loved the rice krispie treats, but was confused by the Peeps. I don't believe he understood that they are food. I, for one, adore Peeps. I like them best when partially stale. I used to buy them and cut open the packages, then eat them after a week. Strange, I know.  Nick's Auntie Mandy got him some cotton candy, and I'm waiting a little bit for him to try that. I think he'll love it. She may want to be there when he tries it, because she can take pictures of the mess.  :)  Then she can help clean him up.

Nick just loves the birdie fan pull on his Grandpa Ray's fan. Everytime he goes over there, he likes to reach for the birdie. Everytime Nick sees a ceiling fan now, he says, "Birdie," even when there isn't a bird on the fan pull. I guess he wishes there was one.

We really wanted my sister to take a nice family picture of the three of us. These are the nicest of the bunch. It is very hard to get Nick to stay still and smile. I think the second one, that wasn't posed, turned out nicer and has all three of us in it. That can count as a family shot, right? My sister really took some great pictures, anyway, even when Nick wouldn't cooperate.

I'm going to end with this picture because it looks like Nick is taking a bow. "Thank you everyone, the show is over.  All of the eggs have been collected."
